Tosa Pediatrics is Now Offering Mental Health Therapy Services

Tosa Pediatrics is excited to announce the addition of two incredible mental health therapists to our team!

Over the years, we have added a number of specialists to help us collaboratively deliver the best care possible - lactation consulting, speech and occupational therapy, lipidology, and dietitian services.  We always dreamed of adding mental health providers to that distinguished group.  When Tosa Speech and Communications as well as Tosa Peds Occupational Therapy moved one additional door down, our Therapies Building presented an opportunity to make that dream a reality. It was time to get to work and find more amazing people.  And when we set our minds on something, we find a way to make it happen!

Over the last six months we updated our therapies space and constructed two therapy playrooms.  We learned an entirely new insurance language as it differs from traditional care.  Most importantly, we searched and found the right people:  two wonderful experienced therapists who fit the Tosa Pediatrics model and mission.  And so it's with great excitement that we announce the arrival of Caroline Burnett, MS LMFT and Maggie Eckert, MS LPC.

Caroline and Maggie have worked with us over the past several months to make this launch as successful as possible.  We are so grateful to have them and their expertise while we do our part in helping our Tosa Pediatrics family navigate their mental health challenges.

Please join us in welcoming Caroline and Maggie to the team!

Appointments will be available during the beginning of March for current Tosa Peds patients by calling the office. To learn more about Caroline and Maggie, please read their bios below.

Caroline is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas and her Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Edgewood College. Caroline practices from a systemic approach which calls for high levels of involvement from parents, caregivers, and siblings within the therapy space. Allowing the system to engage in therapy will create an environment of healing for the whole family, enhance relationships, and allow for longer-term maintenance of gains made through therapeutic work. Caroline also believes the largest amount of work done is in the home between parents and children. It is vital that parents are given the tools they need to foster healthy development for their children, and Caroline is happy to provide that through parent coaching and modeling.

Caroline has a passion for working with young children 0-10, those diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum, with ADHD, and Separation Anxiety. Most sessions will involve work done with both the parents/caregivers as well as the identified patient. This will allow for the relationship between the caregivers and the child to grow, creating a safe space which will create a decrease in behaviors. Caroline also has experience with behavior intervention and modification which can be matched with relationship building, emotional fluency and affect regulation to cultivate a calm home environment.

Caroline likes to spend her free time at home with her husband, young daughter, loud dog and tiny cat.

Maggie is a Licensed Professional Counselor who completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. Maggie is also in the process of becoming a Registered Play Therapist. Maggie specializes in play therapy interventions to encourage children to express big emotions, manage anxiety, persist through challenges, build confidence, and practice new ways of interacting with others.

Play is the language that is most accessible to children. As your child’s therapist, Maggie’s role is to cultivate a welcoming space where a child is able to experience an embodied sense of mastery and control, while naturally learning the skills needed to help them live their lives fully. Sometimes, members of the family may be asked to join a play session. Other times, Maggie may meet individually with your child and conduct separate adult sessions to share progress made and offer coaching for those stressful moments at home. This process allows children to feel understood, promotes emotional regulation, and helps children create solutions to their own challenges.

While working with children, tweens, teens, and caregivers, Maggie addresses concerns in an engaging, creative, and developmentally sensitive way. Maggie works from a holistic lens and her work is rooted in a LGBTQI affirming, culturally sensitive, and neurodiversity affirming framework.

In her free time, Maggie likes to relax with her husband, as well as pet cats, read books, and practice yoga.
